Employees of Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank presented a check in the amount of $765 to the Support Center at Burch House. The donation was made by employees of the bank’s Cottage Street, Littleton office on behalf of all the bank’s employees with money raised through its ‘Casual Wear…Because We Care’ Program.
“Everyone knows someone touched by domestic violence, whether a friend, family member, co-worker, or customer,” said Shannon McKee, AVP/Branch Manager of the Littleton, Cottage Street office of Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank. “We feel so strongly about the importance of the center and know that this donation will help many, many people in a critical time of need.”
The Support Center at Burch House is a non-profit, volunteer-supported organization that provides free and confidential services and support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in 17 towns around the Littleton area. The center provides emergency shelter to women and children who have been rendered homeless due to domestic or sexual violence; a 24 hour toll-free support and information hotline (800-774-0544); 24 hour accompaniment and transportation to the hospital and police station for those seeking medical care or police intervention; and court advocacy and technical assistance. It also provides violence prevention education at no cost to schools, community groups, social agencies, police departments, hospitals and others who wish to learn how to respond to domestic and sexual abuse.
“We are so grateful to WGSB employees for this gift,” said Jeanne Robillard, Interim Director of Burch House. “We receive grants for a number of special programs that we offer, however those funds may not be used for the kinds of operational expenses we incur to keep the center running day to day.” Jeanne continued, “For example, our washing machine just died! We had no idea how we were going to get a new one, to help our women and children in temporary residence, so this donation could not have come at a better time. Thank you so much to the employees of WGSB.”
